This is a two-day course, June 18 and 19.

Is your school moving into standards-based or standards-referenced grading, and you are looking for more examples from a music classroom? Here is an opportunity to discuss the research and practical implementation of standards-based teaching and learning (and assessment and grading) in a music classroom with an experienced music educator. Each day there will be collaborative work time so you can take away tools you've customized for your classroom. 

June 18: Focus on the philosophy of standards-based teaching and learning; Quality performance assessments and assessment practices; Quality assessments of musical knowledge

June 19: Focus on measuring student growth with standards-based assessments

$245 registration fee includes materials plus beverages and snacks; Lunch on your own

 

Stay tuned! We anticipate one graduate credit will be available from Viterbo University for successful completion of this two-day course.

Workshop facilitator is Dr. Wendy Barden, respected Minnesota music educator, national clinician, and published author with Neil A. Kjos Music Company. Before retiring in 2013, Barden served 21 years as K-12 Music Coordinator in the Osseo, MN school district. Currently, she is teaching the International Baccalaureate music class at Park Center High School (in a standards-based system) and works with music educators across the country through her company, Segue Consulting Partners. Barden holds a B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. She is honored to be a member of Phi Beta Mu and the Minnesota Music Educators Hall of Fame.
